Szempontok:

Sokéves, ifjúsági táboroztatás után/mellett döntöttünk úgy, hogy szeretnénk még többet adni a fiataloknak. A táborhoz kapcsolódóan voltak/vannak ma is más projektjeink, de hogy is jutott eszünkbe, hogy könyveket kellene kiadni?

 

A dolog régebben kezdődött, mint gondolnátok. Kiadónk vezetői évek óta jó barátságban voltak Böszörményi Gyula íróval, így Ater fejéből pattant ki az ötlet 2005-ben, hogy mi lenne, ha felkérné Gyulát egy könyv megírására. Olyan rémes, de ne véres tinikönyvet szeretett volna tőle. Gyula ekkor írta meg a 9…8…7 című könyvét, ám ekkor még nem gondoltunk arra, hogy mi magunk adjunk ki könyveket, így került a könyv a Könyvmolyképző Kiadóhoz. Az évek csak teltek, és bennünket tovább piszkált ez a könyvkiadósdi. Így 2009-ben végül úgy döntöttünk, belevágunk. Így jelenhetett meg könyveink közül elsőként a Skellig és a Vadóc David Almond tollából, a nagy sikerű Holdhercegnő, Elizabeth Goudge klasszikus családi fantasyje, valamit a két könyvtestvér, a Lányokról lányoknak és a Pubersrác. És folytathatnánk még a felsorolást, hiszen 2010-ben is számos értékes könyvet adtunk már ki, és a java még csak most jön… Szóval érdemes odafigyelni ránk!

 

Founded in 2008 by Attila and Zsuzsanna Palotás, Pongrác Publishing is one of the most recently established such enterprises in Hungary, which, however, has already gained a reputation in the sector and in its target group. Pongrác has always been committed to offer high quality literature by contemporary writers from Hungary and abroad for children and young adults. The books we publish range from picture and story books to young adult novels. The parental advisory age limit (e.g. not for below 10, 12, 13 or 18 years of age) is always marked on the back cover of the publication.

The first books, Girl to Girl and Puberman of Villegas Editores were brought out at the end of 2008, and they were quickly followed by a number of other titles in 2009. By the end of 2010 over 30 titles have been published. Our published titles include:

  • Skellig, The Savage and Jackdaw Summer by the Whitbread Award and the Andersen Medal winner David Almond (a fourth novel, Clay, is already under translation),
  • ghostgirl and ghostgirl – Homecoming by the New York Times best-selling author Tonya Hurley (the third part of the sequel is to be brought out in 2012),
  • The Little White Horse , a classical story by Elizabeth Goudge,
  •  the fabulous Castle-series (or the Ingary-sequel) by the late Diana Wynne Jones,
  •  the award-winning A Visitor for Bear and A Bedtime for Bear by Bonny Becker,
  •  the  charming Library Lion, a New York Times bestseller by Michelle Knudsen,
  • A Swift Pure Cry  and The London Eye Mystery by the award-winning Siobhan Dowd,
  •  the much-awaited Incarceron by Catherine Fisher.

 We,  however, do not concentrate exclusively on British and American authors, but strive to popularize European authors and their works, such as for example:

  •  the Finnish Timo Parvela with his Ella-series, which is an assigned reading for  elementary school kids in Finland,
  • the Polish Rafał Kosik and his gFelix, Net & Nikah-sequel, the first part of which, Felix, Net & Nika and the Gang of Invisible People, has already been brought out,
  •  the Norwegian Yngve Frøyen with her much acclaimed novel entitled The Boy Who Hated December,
  • the Italian Silvano Agosti and his marvellously written Pinocchio Returns,
  • two German writers, the award-winning Isabel Abedi with her Forbidden World and Derek Meister with his thrilling Ghost Hunter.

 Pongrác published Hungarian authors include the IBBY-award winner Gyula Böszörményi (Nightmare-sequel), and two debuting authors Judit Nyilasi (Wan-Wan and the Laughing Flowers) and Imre Károly (The Prince Who Became Invisible).

In fact the list could go on for quite a while and there’s so much more to come…
